Tom Almanzan

Richard Almanzan was drafted as a draftsman, because of his engineering skills, but volunteered for combat after a short time. He was proud to fight for his country, but after the war, he didn't like talking about it. He was awarded the Bronze Star for helping to save his men from being overrun by the enemy in a ground operation in Germany, January 16, 1945. Richard Almanzan and his wife moved to Lakewood in 1950 and lived at 4442 Snowden Ave. for over 50 years. Richard coached youth sports at Del Valle Park in the late 1950s-early 1960s.
