Airman First Class Robert Farren CarmichaelReflections on this veteran's military serviceSubmitted by Alexander Carmichael
Robert moved to the U.S. from Cambuslang, Scotland, in December 1955. He joined the Air Force in September 1956 and went to Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas, for basic training. After that, he was stationed at Edwards Air Force base until September 1960, when he was discharged. He gained American citizenship in April, 1960, which would be one of his proudest life accomplishments.
Robert and his wife, Judy, bought their first home in Lakewood on Ibbetson in 1962, then their home on Dunrobin in 1964, where they would call home for the rest of their lives and raise their family of three girls and one boy. To this day, many descendants of the Scotsman Robert Farren Carmichael still reside and have purchased homes in the city of Lakewood. (Posted 2019) |
