TSG Chester Gabriel III
Reflections on this veteran's military serviceSubmitted by Jessica Gabriel
Chester's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the pursuit of purpose. Born and raised in the vibrant heart of Southern California, he spent his early years in the dynamic community of Compton before moving to Lakewood, where his parents currently reside. From a young age, Chester was nurtured by the rich cultural tapestry that surrounded him, and his thirst for knowledge led him to Cerritos Community College, where he earned his AA degree. He then transferred to Cal State University Dominguez Hills, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration. Chester's path took a turn when he found himself unfulfilled in his work in the civilian sector. Inspired by his military family, including his father who served in the Air Force during Vietnam, his maternal grandfather who was a Tuskegee Airman mechanic in the Army during WWII, and his sister who also served in the Air Force, Chester felt a calling to serve his country. His parents, Chester & Aprel Gabriel, were his role models, and their experiences in the military inspired him to join the Air Force. Today, Chester serves in the Air Force, where he has served with distinction at Peterson Air Force Base as an Electrician and at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. He chose to become an Electrician because it was a trade that would round out his skills and was applicable to all phases of life. His job as an electrician goes far beyond simple home improvement projects, as every Air Force base around the world requires electricity to operate successfully. Chester's work as an electrician is diverse and challenging. He installs, maintains, and repairs energized and de-energized overhead and underground distribution systems. He works on transformer, sub stations, switches, breakers, fuses, panels, lighting fixtures, receptacles, and motors. He also climbs 30-foot poles and maintains annual proficiency in CPR, First Aid, and aerial lift rescue. Chester's dedication to his country was put to the test when he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Spartan Shield. He set up and maintained airfields in austere locations to help pilots complete their mission, such as transporting important cargo to service members in desolate places and helping nations with necessary supplies. Chester's journey is a reminder that with dedication, hard work, and a commitment to the greater good, we can all make a difference in the world. He is grateful to GOD, Jesus Christ and his incredible support system, which includes his selfless loving wife, amazing mother, inspiring father, caring auntie, fearless brother, two smart and strong sisters, beautiful daughters, and precious niece and nephew. Chester's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the pursuit of purpose. (Updated 2024) |
