John attended Riley Elementary school, Hoover Middle school and was a 1962 graduate of Lakewood High School. At 19 he was an excellent student, an artist and an avid body builder. He had a quiet, strong demeanor and a gentle soul and was truly liked by all who knew him. (Updated 2022) This servicemember from Lakewood was killed during the Vietnam War and is one of the 43 men listed on the Lakewood Veterans Memorial Plaza and referred to in the poem, The Boys of Del Valle Park. The poem is inscribed on the memorial and was written by original Lakewood resident and Vietnam veteran, Dennis Lander. |
