Raymond L. Powers proudly served in the United states Navy during World War II. He was stationed on the USS Burns, a destroyer, from 1943 through 1946. The USS Burns acted as an anti-submarine escort, a fighter director ship, and as an aircraft rescue ship. The USS Burns had an outstanding career throughout the Asian Pacific, participating in operations in the Wake Islands, Marshall Islands, Guam, the Philippine Islands, Okinawa, Borneo any many other areas. Ten battle stars were awarded to the USS Burns. Raymond was awarded the above listed medals for his service on the USS Burns.
Raymond's daughter, Nancy Rafi, son-in-law Ahmed Rafi, and their children, Muhammad Rafi and Sarah Rafi have lived in Lakewood for over 31 years. (Posted 2017) |
