Lionello was drafted after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served on the USS Bridge—one of the oldest ships in the Navy at that time (1917). The USS Bridge was a supply ship and provided supplies and equipment to ground troops on various islands in the Pacific. He served on the Pacific side (ex. Not Guadacanal side). The mast on the ship was so tall it had to be cut in order to go under the Golden Gate Bridge. Lionello was proud to serve his country.
Lionello has been a resident since 1951; original home buyer and continued owner. He worked until retirement at the nearby Douglas Aircraft. Active in St. Pancratius Parish Church to date, Active in developing the first Lakewood-Sons of Italy lodge and other community events over the years. (Posted 2016) |
